Mahindra has launched a 9 seater version of the Xylo MPV. The 9 seat version of the MPV is called the Xylo D2 MAXX and the BS3 version of the same is priced at Rs. 7.12 lakhs, ex-showroom Mumbai.
Visual changes include a flurry of non-body coloured parts on the Xylo D2 MAXX, including the front and rear bumper, ORVM housings, front grille and door handles. The Xylo D2′s engine is the tried and tested 2.5 liter mDI CRDe turbo diesel motor that is good for 95 PS-220 Nm. This engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
However, side facing seats at the rear can get very tiresome on longer journeys and is hence not preferred by family MPV buyers. The Xylo continues to be available in 7 seat and 8 seat versions. The 7 seat version features captain seats (2+2) for the first two rows and a bench seat accommodating 3 adults, for the third row. The 8 seat version features captain seats for the first row and bench seats accommodating 3 adults each for the second and third rows.
The Xylo, which comes in 5 variants: D2, D4, H4, H8 and H9, gets a more powerful 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine for the H4. H8 and H9 variants. The 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine, also found in the Scorpio SUV, outputs 120 Bhp of peak power and 280 Nm of peak torque. Like in the D2 and D4 models, this engine is also paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox. In India, the Xylo competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy, Nissan Evalia, Toyota Innova and Tata Sumo Grande.

Cab operators in semi-urban parts of India (that are yet to embrace BS4 emission norms) who feel the need for extra seats are the prime targets of the Xylo D2 MAXX. The seating of the Xylo D2 MAXX is expanded for 9 through the addition of two side-facing seats at the rear. This move is likely to intrude on some amount of luggage space but then again, most cabbies prefer mounting luggage atop the vehicle through roof carriers.
