Facelifted Tata Nano petrol spied

Tata Motors will give the petrol powered Nano yet another facelift in the months to come. This time around, the facelifted Nano petrol will borrow the facelifted design from the diesel engined model, which will be launched in India by April 2014. The facelifted petrol engined Nano will feature revamped front and rear ends.

The styling of the car will get sharper, moving away from the smiley face that all versions of the Nano built till date have featured. Along with the design facelift, the petrol powered Nano will get a few new features added on the basis on car buyer feedback.
The new features on the facelifted Nano petrol are likely to include
  • Open-able hatch lid powered by hydraulics
  • Revised exhaust system
The petrol engined Nano was recently joined by a CNG powered version. The CNG powered version, while being priced higher than the petrol engined model, offers lower running costs and lower tail pipe emissions. The Nano with a diesel engine will sit above the CNG powered version in terms of price.

All variants of the Nano are being pitched as affordable yet stylish vehicles that are both easy-to-drive and frugal. Tata Motors is running a youth centric media campaign to popularize the car among younger buyers. The campaign is yet to translate into higher sales.
The facelifted version of the Nano, along with the diesel engined model could finally turn around the car for Tata Motors. Clearly, Tata Motors isn’t giving up on the world’s least priced car despite the fact that the car maker is barely managing to match one fifth of the originally estimated sales figures for the Nano.
As of now, Tata Motors’ Nano-making factory at Sanand, Gujarat, is operating at less than one third of its installed capacity of 250,000 units/year. Vendors who have set shop in and around Tata Motors’ Sanand factory are also operating at reduced outputs.
