It’s an official invitation to the “global unveiling of an iconic model which has redefined automotive design and technology”, which in all probability is the new Honda City. It’s one of Honda’s best-kept secrets, with not a single spy shot of the upcoming City visible yet.
The grapevine though has it that the new Honda City has been sent to Pune, to the ARAI, for final tests. The car will be available with both petrol and diesel engine choices – and that’s something we have gathered from Honda dealers who are busy clocking pre-bookings for the Honda City diesel, with a booking amount of Rs. 50,000.
The funny part is, no one knows what the car will look like, but yet, because Honda hasn’t put a wheel wrong in the past, blind faith is driving bookings for the new City as well. What we do know is that the Honda City shares its platform with the upcoming Honda Fit/Jazz, a car that has been unveiled in Japan. Some smart work with imaging software has given rise to some renderings that look fairly believable as the new Honda City.
The City will come with the same 1.5 litre iDtec diesel engine that powers the Honda Amaze, but may see an increase in power from the present 100 bhp to probably around 115 bhp or so, with the use of a different turbocharger perhaps. It will also come with a 1.5 litre petrol engine, which is likely to be the same as the one that powered the current City, putting out 116 bhp of power. An automatic option on the petrol is possible.
