Honda Urban SUV Concept’s production version revealed through patent images

And here in these patent filings, we have the final shape of the Honda Urban SUV!

If it’s something new, the patent officer poring over everything from a new variety of food grain to the latest, cutting edge automobile, gets to see it first. Inevitably, leaks follow. Leaked patent images of the Honda Urban SUV’s production version mean that the SUV has been revealed long before its official unveil at the Tokyo Motor Show. As expected, there are no surprises in terms of the Urban SUV’s design signed off for production. The production version features the same looks as that of the concept version, save for changes in the headlamps and alloy wheels.

Since Honda hasn’t showcased the Urban SUV’s interiors, that aspect of the SUV remains a mystery. With the Japanese car maker betting big on its man-maximum-machine-minimum design philosophy for all its new cars including the 2014 Jazz, expect the Urban SUV’s production version to come with versatile interiors. The Urban SUV is based on the 2014 Jazz platform. Therefore, expect to see a fair bit of common parts on the interiors as well as the mechanicals. Engines and transmissions are likely to be shared with the likes of the 2014 Jazz hatchback and City sedan models.

Although Honda hasn’t kept its mouth shut tight when it comes to the Urban SUV’s engine and transmission options, given the fact that this SUV is India bound, a turbo diesel engine is very likely. The 1.5 liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine, found on the Amaze compact sedan, albeit in a more powerful state of tune could power the Urban SUV. As the Urban SUV, like its name spells out, is intended to be a city slicker, front wheel drive should be dominant option. Honda might not offer an all wheel drive option, at least for the price conscious Indian car market. Expect to see the Honda Urban SUV on Indian roads in 2015, at a price north of those of the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
