Tata Motors is working on giving its existing line up a major design makeover as most Tata cars are perceived to be past their “sell-by dates” by most car buyers apart from the cabbies. A few months ago, Tata Motors revealed the Horizonext strategy. This strategy involved the complete revamp of Tata’s passenger car range, the first of which were showcased at the event itself.
Looking ahead, Tata Motors has charted up new cars under the Horizonext strategy, the first of which will be revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The first Tata cars to adopt the new design language will be the refreshed Indica Vista hatchback and the Manza-based compact sedan. Both cars will be launched next year. The refreshed Vista, code-named the Falcon 4, will get a major design revamp.
While retaining the X1 platform of the current Vista, the 2014 Vista will get a revised design inspired by the Manza Hybrid concept. The sharper design lines will be complemented by higher quality interiors and other parts, now designed to give the car a more appealing fit and finish. Engines and transmissions of the 2014 Vista are likely to be unchanged although a few improvements could be in the pipeline here as well.
The Manza compact sedan, lined up to replace the Indigo eCS, will be a sub-4 meter car that will resemble the 2014 vista from the front. While the turbo diesel engine of the Manza CS will be shared with that of the full-size Manza, the petrol engine could be a turbo petrol variant of the 1.2 liter XETA unit, which is seen on the Indica eV2 and Vista hatchbacks. The Manza CS is codenamed the Falcon 5. Both cars will highlight the new direction that Tata Motors is taking in terms of quality and design.
