Volkswagen Jetta facelift launched

Volkswagen India has facelifted the Jetta luxury sedan with revised looks and new features. The car is priced between Rs. 13.70 lakhs to Rs. 19.43 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The Jetta will continue to be imported into India through the completely knocked down (CKD) route and Volkswagen uses Skoda’s Aurangabad factory to assemble this car.

The Volkswagen Jetta sold in India is available with two engine options: A 1.4 liter TSI turbo petrol engine that is good for 122 PS-200 Nm and a 2 liter TDI turbo diesel engine that outputs 140 PS-320 Nm. Both these engines are available with 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard while Volkswagen also offers the 6 speed dual clutch DSG gearbox on the diesel engined model.

Here’s the summary of features added on the facelifted Jetta:
  • Dual zone automatic climate control standard on all variants
  • Redesigned alloy wheels on the Trendline and Comfortline variants
  • Bi-Xenon headlamps, headlamp washers and daytime running LEDs on the Highline variant
Apart from these feature changes, the 2013 Jetta remains similar to the pre-facelifted version. The Jetta sold in India is offered in  6 variants. The petrol engined model is offered in two variants: Trendline and Comfortline, the diesel engined model is offered in four variants: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline and Highline AT. The Jetta’s additional features seem to have been added to fend off competition from the recently launched 2013 Skoda Octavia, a car that has seen a brisk response with over 1,000 bookings in just 20 days of its launch. Despite the added features, the Jetta seems under-speced when compared with the 2013 Octavia. Also see: Hyundai Elantra review
The only real selling point of the Jetta is that it comes with a better ride and handling package than the Octavia due to the presence of the independent rear suspension, a feature that’s available only on the 1.8 liter TSI petrol engined Octavia variants.
